The widest range of air handling units in the market.
Swegon’s GOLD units are designed for comfort ventilation. To ensure superior performance, we design our own components, such as our rotary heat exchanger, fan impeller and control equipment. Commercial or retail construction? Public premises or residential properties? Whatever your segment, there’s always a model to serve you best. Our unrivalled expertise and support are naturally included, right from your planning phase and commissioning through to the first actual use of the unit in future.
The foundation of an excellent air handling unit is the cabinetry. The GOLD F version offers many improvements to enhance performance and increase flexibility.
F Version Grey Finish
The new grey finish is textured to provide both enhanced protection while looking as good as it performs.
GOLD Unit with Composite Hinges and Flush Mount Handles
The door arrangement on GOLD units is set up for maximum accessibility even in tight spaces. Access to all internal components is achieved from one side so placements against a wall or in a corner are no problem. The F version door handles are flush-mounted for safety will offering a two-step opening process. The first step holds the door slightly open allowing any pressure to be relieved and the second step allows the door to swing past 90 degrees for service accessibility.
The composite hinges greatly reduce thermal bridging. Thermal bridging leads to heat loss and gain through the cabinet lowering performance and increasing operating cost.
The performance goals of any air handling unit cabinet are to have the lowest air leakage rate and heat/loss/gain possible. Low leakage saves fan energy while improved thermal performance improves heating and cooling costs. The advanced cabinet design used in GOLD is tested to Eurovent EN 1886 – Ventilation for Buildings – Air Handling Units – Mechanical performance.
The GOLD unit has the highest ratings for cabinet and filter rack air leakage while still delivering excellent thermal performance and low noise.
Casing air leakage: L1(M).

In addition to energy recovery and fan performance, air handling unit performance can also measure the properties of the cabinetry. GOLD units are tested to the Eurovent Standard EN 1886 for leakage and thermal performance.
Casing air leakage measures the amount of air leakage when the unit is operating under pressure. For units with energy recovery devices the test is based on 400 Pa (1.6 inches w.c negative pressure. The GOLD unit is rated at L1(M) which is a maximum leakage rate of 0.15 l/(s-m²) (2.95 cfm/100ft²). L1(M) is the lowest leakage category.
EN 1886 also measures the air leakage around the filter rack. Leakage here means ventilation air is not being cleaned by the filters. The test measures the leakage rate at 400 Pa (1.6 inches w.c.). The GOLD filter leakage class is F9, the highest class, which is less than 0.5% of nominal airflow rate.
Thermal bridging a measure of “short circuits” in the cabinet where heat pass through such as metal hinges. The GOLD unit is rated at TB2.
Thermal transmission measures how well the cabinet is insulated. The GOLD thermal transmittance is T2 which is a U factor between 0.5 and 1.0 W/(m² -C) (0.088 to 0.176 Btu/h-ft²-F)
Mechanical strength is the measure of casing deflection measured in mm/m. The GOLD is rated at D1, the highest class with deflection of less than 4 mm/m (0.004 in./in.).
GOLD Outdoor Unit
Not all projects have space indoors for mechanical equipment. That is why the GOLD units can be placed both indoors and outdoors. The top panel of the GOLD unit overhangs the doors and along with improved door handles the GOLD unit can be used rain or shine.
GOLD Roof Panel With Integral Rain Gutter
The enhanced roof design has triple broken roof panels for weather sealing and an integral rain gutter to redirect rain away from the door area.

The fans in an energy recovery ventilation unit will use more energy annually that anything else. That is why at Swegon we developed our own fans which are quiet and energy-efficient. The fans are direct drive, mixed flow plenum type. Direct drive avoids the energy loss, maintenance and reliability issues associated with belt-driven fans.
Swegon fan performance is based on the fans in the cabinets so what you see is what you get without any additional system effect corrections required.
The plenum fans have a high number of blades that shift the sound into the higher frequencies making it easier to attenuate. In most applications, GOLD units do not need any additional sound attenuation. The whole fan/motor assembly is mounted on special rubber in shear (RIS) vibration isolators with flexible bulkhead connectors specifically designed to stop any high-frequency vibration from entering the building. No other isolation is required.
The motors are EC (permanent magnet synchronous motor) type that deliver the highest efficiency over the full speed range of the fan. The motors are serviceable TEAO (totally enclosed, air over) providing long life.
The EC motors are matched to Swegon designed motor controller that can vary the airflow so all GOLD units can be either constant volume or variable airflow. The motor controller is linked with the GOLD IQLogic controller via Modbus for fully integrated control.
All GOLD fans include a piezo ring airflow monitor connected to the GOLD units IQLogic controller so you know the airflow all the time. You can control the airflow by simply inputting the required airflow rate and the GOLD unit will deliver the airflow regardless of air density, filter loading or external static pressure.
Fan servicing is quick and easy. Just disconnect the control and power wiring harnesses, loosen the turnbuckles and flex duct connector and remove the fan assembly. Install the new fan assembly and you are up and running in minutes.
Keeping the ventilation air clean is critical to achieve good IAQ. While ASHRAE standard 62.1 only requires MERV 8 filters, GOLD units come standard with MERV 13 filters in the supply and exhaust airstreams for added protection.
The special filter rack in GOLD units pulls the filters forward and seals the filters to the filter frame to ensure the air flows through the filters and not around them. The leakage rate is less than 0.5% of nominal airflow, giving GOLD a Filter leakage classification of F9, the highest for Eurovent Standard EN1886.
GOLD units have integrated filter pressure drop transducers that monitor the filter life and let you know when the filters require changing.
GOLD units also include a 2 inch (50 mm) prefilter rack that can hold MERV 8 prefilters. This filter rack also has integrated pressure drop transducers so prefilter life can be monitored separately from main filter life.
Other filter options are also available including carbon filters and hoare frost filter arrangements.
Units with rotary heat exchangers allow you to achieve the ultimate in temperature and annual energy efficiency; our patented heat exchangers with turbulent air flow are uniquely effective. This, combined with the short installation length typically makes them the first choice for most applications. The turbulent flow in the rotor and the Carry-Over Control feature makes them ideally compatible with VAV and DCV system applications. The rotors can be surface-treated in different ways. For example, with the RECOsorptic sorption technology coating for enhanced humidity recovery, or epoxy for heavy-duty environments. GOLD RX is designed to minimise the risk of air and odour transmission between the air flows.
A counter-flow heat exchanger is an excellent choice for applications in which you want to separate the air flows. GOLD PX is available in two versions depending on whether your priority is superior temperature efficiency or low pressure drop.
The RECOflow heat exchanger has a high air-seal class, which minimises internal leakage. This makes the GOLD PX an excellent choice for residential properties. Cold weather and humid extract air pose a risk of frost formation in the heat exchanger. To prevent this, our GOLD PX integrates RECOfrost – the best anti-freeze protection on the market. This unique feature uses the latest data from the unit to provide adaptive and demand-controlled adjustment for optimised energy recovery. RECOfrost adjusts the pressure drop across the heat exchanger in periods when full recovery is not needed, e.g. in spring and autumn. The result is superlative temperature efficiency and energy balance, in any climate.
The GOLD SD is a complete air handling unit with separate supply and exhaust air components, supply air and exhaust air fans as well as supply air and exhaust air filters as optional extras. The unit components can also be used as stand-alone supply air fans, exhaust air fans and for single direction air flow. SD units in the supply and exhaust air streams can be connected with a run around loop for energy recovery. A run around loop overs 100% air separation and can connect the supply and exhaust air streams in different parts of the building.
The ventilation system often has a critical role to play in fire and smoke control and GOLD is up for the task. The following options are built into GOLD to help make your project as safe as it is comfortable.
TCBP Fire Bypass Section
The air bypass section is used when you want the return air to by¬pass the heat exchanger and filter, e.g. as a component in a system for smoke extraction. See the example for respective variants/sizes. The fans of the air handling unit are tested for and can operate for one hour at 160°F (70°C). The air bypass section is available for GOLD RX/PX size 011-080.
Solution for fire bypass (upward) for GOLD RX 05-80.
The TCBP air bypass section is shown installed on a GOLD RX unit with an additional return air damper. The dampers can be controlled by the building smoke management system to redirect air around the return air filters and rotor to allow smoke exhaust.
Solution for fire bypass (rear, inspection side or upward) for GOLD PX 05- 40.
The TCBP air bypass section is shown installed on a GOLD RX unit with an additional return air damper. The dampers can be controlled by the building smoke management system to redirect air around the return air filters and plate heat exchanger to allow smoke exhaust.
As a standard feature, the GOLD unit’s internal temperature sensors serve as fire protection thermostats. An alarm is initiated if the supply air temperature sensor registers more than 160 °F (70 °C) or when the return air temperature sensor registers more than 115 °F (45 °C). Alarm limits are possible to set via the IQNavigator.
If an external Return air/Room temperature sensor is con¬nected and activated, this works parallel with the return air temperature sensor of the AHU.
The GOLD unit comes standard with two external fire alarm inputs Contacts 6-7 and 8-9. There are jumper wires as standard. If the circuit is interrupted (external contact) then the GOLD unit will go into alarm. To meets the specific needs of your project, the IQLogic controls can be configured in many ways that allow you to prioritize alarms, take control of the supply and exhaust fans, operate at different airflows etc.
Alarm reset
The resetting of internal fire alarms, as well as the external fire alarms 1 and 2, can be individually selected to manual or automatic.
After cool
The After cool function for electric air heaters can be individually activated, for internal fire alarms as well as external fire alarms 1 and 2.
Fan operation When there is a fire alarm
The fans of the air handling unit can be used for evacuating smoke, etc. It is possible to individually select the type of fan operation for each separate fire alarm. If the AHU is idle, the fans selected startup (10-100%), irrespective of whether stop (all types) is activated. The AHU’s damper relay is energized and the AHU’s operation relay is de-energized. Dampers used must be equipped with a spring return and be for a 24 VAC supply voltage. The damper that should be open in the event of a fire shall be connected to the damper relay. Connect the damper to the control unit’s terminals 28 and 30. The damper that should be closed in the event of a fire shall be connected to the operation relay. Connect the damper to the control unit’s terminals 26 and 30. A jumper is placed between terminals 27 and 29.
Priority
The mutual priority of the internal and external fire alarms can be set. If automatic is selected, this means that the first input to be activated is given priority.
Fire bypass in the flow diagram
The fire bypass is shown on the hand-held terminal’s flow diagram when the function is activated. Fan operation for return air must be active for at least one of the fire alarms. Dampers switch to fire bypass if any of the fire alarms are active and the exhaust air fan is operational.
